FYR (Final Year Research)

Actually this is the full story of my FYP. Probably may not be usefull since this would be a long.
When we started this project, we want to do something in Embedded Machine Learning. So our original topic was “Predicting Atrial Fibrillation at Edge”. But as we progressed, due to different different reasons, this project has converted to datascience project.
Actually I want to do something in Embedded Machine Learning, but the thing was there was rule that FYP is a group project and each group should have 4 members. There were several exeptions in the last batch but I was not ready to take that risk. So when I asked several people who were willing to do FYP related to Embedded Machine Learning, Weijith was the only one who was willing to do that. So we decided to do FYP together. Then we started to find some projects in last batches related to Embedded Machine Learning. But after searching for a while, I found this post in Linkedin(Actually I reposted it in my Linkedin profile). So in there we found our supervisor Dr. Chathuranga Hettiarachchi. So we contacted him and I asked about is there anything related to above topic. So he told that there was a research assistant already working on that project. Also he mention that there is another project which may have something we can contribute. So he directed us to another research assistant1 who was working on a project where his topic was low power RF-based indoor localisation systems or something (I don’t remember the exact topic). So we contacted him and he told that he is working on a project where he had some device which can get ECG signal. So went to meet him and he gave that device. So, it was 1-lead ecg device which can easily to wear and it can collect ECG data. So after that we got wanted to do somethin with the device. So we ended up with the Detecting Fibrillation from ECG data.
Background Knowledge
I did my AL(Advanced Level) in Physical Science stream since I was not intersted at Biology. But to continue this project, we both needed to have some background knowledge in Biology. So we started to learn about the heart and how it works. We also learned about the ECG, what are the things we can get from the ECG and how to interpret the ECG. However, I cannot remember how we ended up with the idea of Fibrillation. But then we had the topic of detecting Fibrillation from ECG. When we dig further and further we found that Fibrillation is a broad area in Medicine. So we decided to narrow down our topic to Atrial Fibrillation (AF). So we started to learn about AF and how it can be detected from ECG. We also learned about the different types of AF and how they can be classified.
Detection of AF
There was thousands of research papers on AF Detection but we didn’t that much of papers on the prediction of AF. Thats where first we fucked up. So we thought that it is latest topic and we can do something new. As I understand now, when there is less amount of research papers on a topic, it means that the topic is not that much important or it cannot be done easily. But we didn’t know that at that time. So we started to search for the prediction of AF.
